What are the alternatives to PromptSmart on iPhone?

What PromptSmart does

From its App Store pages and website:

• VoiceTrack speech recognition follows your voice, holds your place when you go off script, and runs on the device without an internet connection.
• PromptSmart Pro is a paid download, and its VoiceTrack is English only. An optional Extended subscription adds a remote control, file sync and Scroll Assist.
• PromptSmart+ is a subscription with a 7-day trial and VoiceTrack in more languages.
• PromptSmart Lite is a free trial that loads one script at a time.
• Selfie Mode records HD video while the text stays near the front camera. Scripts import from DOCX, PDF, RTF, TXT and Google Docs files.

The built-in way

The iPhone has no teleprompter of its own, and nothing built in scrolls text with your voice. The Camera app records video and has a Pause button while you film, but it shows no script. Apple's steps: Apple Support, Record a video with your iPhone camera.

Alternatives that also follow your voice

• Teleprompter.com by Teleprompter LLC: VoiceGlide scrolling follows your voice and pauses when you pause. Its site lists it on the free plan, where recordings carry a watermark. For iPhone, iPad and Mac, with Android and web versions.
• Teleprompter for Video by Norton Five: voice-assisted scrolling, recording up to 4K where the iPhone supports it, and captions after recording. Free for scripts of up to 750 characters.

Alternatives with a speed you set

• Teleprompter Pro by Teleprompter Apps Ltd: continuous or paging scroll, Timed Scrolling that runs the script over a set time, remotes, mirroring for rigs and external displays. The upgrade is a one-time purchase or a subscription.
• Cue: a teleprompter camera for iPhone and iPad, below.

Where Cue fits, and where it does not

Cue does not follow your voice. If following your voice is the reason you use PromptSmart, Cue is not the replacement. The script scrolls on the camera screen at the speed you set, and the Speed rail changes it while you film. Test read sets the first speed: read a paragraph out loud and slide Speed until the words arrive as you need them.

What Cue adds is filming in takes, part of Cue Pro. A take break gives the prompter a place to stop, so it waits for you between parts. You retake any one part, and Cue joins the takes into one video in 9:16, 1:1 or 16:9. Cue Pro also adds 4K, audio-only recording for voiceover and podcasts, script import from a text file or PDF, and on-device AI tools with Apple Intelligence. The app comes in 9 languages, and Arabic scripts read right to left.

Move a script from PromptSmart to Cue

1. Export the script from PromptSmart to iCloud or another cloud service it supports, or copy its text.
2. In Cue, tap + (New script) and paste the text. With Cue Pro you can also import a text file or PDF from Files.
3. Tap Open Teleprompter, open the Text size tool and tap Test read to set Speed and Size.
4. For a long script, add a take break where each part ends, so the prompter stops there (Cue Pro).
5. Record. For one take, tap Save in Review to put the video in Photos. With takes, tap Finish and combine them into one video.
