This page is written by the people who make Cue, so read it with that in mind. We did not test the other apps hands-on. Every fact about them comes from the maker's App Store page or website, and prices are left out because they change by country. Checked 3 November 2026.
Which app for which job
- The script follows your voice: Teleprompter.com, PromptSmart, Teleprompter for Video.
- A glass rig, remotes and a second screen: Teleprompter Pro.
- Captions, branding and editing in the same app: BIGVU, Teleprompter for Video.
- The same scripts on iPhone, Mac, Android and the web: Teleprompter.com.
- A script filmed in parts, joined into one video: Cue.
First, the built-in way
The iPhone has no teleprompter of its own. The Camera app records video and has a Pause button while you film, but it shows no script. Apple's steps: Apple Support, Record a video with your iPhone camera. Every app below adds the missing part: the script on the screen while you record.
Teleprompter.com
By Teleprompter LLC, for iPhone, iPad and Mac, with Android and web versions listed on its site. VoiceGlide scrolling follows your voice and pauses when you pause, and the site lists it on the free plan. It imports TXT, Word and PDF scripts, can be run from a second device, an Apple Watch or a foot pedal, and supports right-to-left languages. Free recordings carry a watermark and export in 1080p. Pro removes the watermark and adds 4K and subtitles, by subscription with a 7-day free trial.
Suits: people who want the text to follow their voice, with the same scripts on every device.
PromptSmart
By Belleau Technologies. VoiceTrack speech recognition follows your voice, holds your place when you go off script, and works without an internet connection. PromptSmart Pro is a paid download, and its VoiceTrack is English only. PromptSmart+ is a subscription with a 7-day trial and VoiceTrack in more languages. Selfie Mode records HD video while the text stays near the front camera.
Suits: speakers who want the text to wait for them, on camera or on stage.
Teleprompter for Video
By Norton Five. Voice-assisted scrolling, recording up to 4K where the iPhone supports it, and a floating mode that lays the script over other apps, such as the Camera app. After recording it adds captions, exports .srt files, resizes for social media and replaces a green screen background. It is free for scripts of up to 750 characters, about a minute of video, with no watermark.
Suits: short videos that need captions and quick edits in the same app.
Teleprompter Pro
By Teleprompter Apps Ltd, for iPhone, iPad and Mac. Its strength is control: mirrored text for a glass rig; keyboards, foot pedals, game controllers and the IKAN Elite Remote; a second iOS device or a web browser on the same Wi-Fi; and the script full screen on an external display or AirPlay TV. Recording with the camera is part of the Pro upgrade, a one-time purchase or a subscription. The same maker's free app, Teleprompter, has unlimited scripts and records video.
Suits: studios, presenters with an operator, and anyone with a prompter rig.
BIGVU
By BIGVU INC. A teleprompter inside a video editor: automatic captions, themes with your logo and colors, green screen replacement, music, an AI eye contact fix, and several takes so you keep the best one. Videos go to BIGVU Cloud and open on the web. Its site lists the free plan at 720p with a watermark, up to 9 minutes per video.
Suits: marketers who want to script, edit, caption and post from one place.
Cue
Ours, for iPhone and iPad. The script scrolls on the camera screen at the speed you set. It does not follow your voice. Free: the teleprompter and camera, 3 scripts, Full HD, starter templates and script backup, with no watermark. Cue Pro adds filming in takes: the prompter stops at each take break, you retake any one part, and Cue joins the takes into one video in 9:16, 1:1 or 16:9. Cue Pro also adds 4K, audio-only recording, script import and on-device AI tools with Apple Intelligence. Cue has no captions, no remote from a second device and no Android, Mac or web version. It is also the newest app here, with far fewer ratings.
Suits: creators who film a script in parts and want one finished video without an editor.
How to choose
- Decide how the script should move: at a speed you set, or following your voice.
- Decide where the video gets finished: in the app, or in an editor you already use.
- Try the free version with your own script, then check the saved video for a watermark and its quality.
Questions
Is there a teleprompter app that follows your voice?
Yes. Teleprompter.com (VoiceGlide), PromptSmart (VoiceTrack) and Teleprompter for Video (voice-assisted scrolling) all list it. Cue does not. It scrolls at the speed you set, and you can change the speed while you film.
What is the best free teleprompter app for iPhone?
It depends on the limit you can live with. Teleprompter for Video is free for scripts of up to 750 characters, with no watermark. Teleprompter.com's free plan records with a watermark. Cue's free version has 3 scripts and Full HD recording, with no watermark.
Which teleprompter app works with a teleprompter rig?
Most of them can mirror the text. Teleprompter Pro is built around rigs, with remotes and external displays. In Cue, open the Mirror tool and turn on Script mirror so the text reads the right way round in the glass.
Does the script show in the video?
Not in Cue. The script is shown on your screen only. The video records what the camera sees and what the microphone hears.
