Privacy Policy
Cue (cue-app.me), offered by Ahmed Jola, an individual developer based in Dubai, United Arab Emirates. Ahmed Jola is the data controller for the data described in this policy.
Cue is a teleprompter and video camera for iPhone, iPad and Apple silicon Macs. Cue has no account and no servers of its own. This policy says what stays on your device, what is sent anywhere, and when. Usage analytics applies from Cue 2.0; earlier versions send nothing.
The short version
- Your scripts, videos and recordings stay on your device. Cue does not upload them.
- Cue sends anonymous usage events to Google Firebase Analytics. In the EEA, the United Kingdom and Switzerland this happens only after you tap Allow on "Help shape Cue for your videos". Everywhere else it is on from the first launch and you can turn it off in Cue's Settings, under Help improve Cue.
- Purchases are handled by Apple.
- Cue does not track you across other companies' apps and websites, and does not ask for App Tracking Transparency permission.
What stays on your device
- Your scripts, folders and settings are saved on your device. Cue also keeps a last-good copy of your scripts file on the device, so it can restore your scripts by itself if the file is ever damaged. That copy never leaves the device through Cue.
- Videos and audio recordings are recorded on your device. They go to your Photos library or to Files only when you choose to save or share them.
- Camera and microphone access is used only to record. Photos access is used only to save your finished videos.
- Like any app, Cue's data on your device can be included in your device backups (iCloud Backup or a computer backup) if you have turned those on in your Apple settings. That is handled by Apple under your settings, not by Cue.
If you delete the app, the data stored inside it goes with it. Videos you saved to Photos or Files stay where you saved them.
Usage analytics
Where your App Store country is in the EEA, the United Kingdom or Switzerland, Cue asks "Help shape Cue for your videos" after onboarding, with two equal choices: Allow and Don't allow. Existing users there are asked once after the 2.0 What's New screen. In every other country, usage analytics is on by default and you can turn it off at any time.
- In the EEA, the United Kingdom and Switzerland, Cue does not turn on Firebase Analytics and sends no usage events until you tap Allow. If you choose Don't allow, or never answer, it stays off.
- Cue uses Google Firebase Analytics, a service of Google, to count how people use the app so we can fix and improve it. In the EEA, the United Kingdom and Switzerland our legal basis is your consent; elsewhere it is our legitimate interest in keeping the app working and improving it, and you can object at any time with the switch in Settings.
- You can switch this on or off at any time in Cue's Settings, under Help improve Cue. Turning it off stops new events from being sent. Withdrawing consent does not affect what was lawfully collected before.
What is sent when analytics is on:
- Events such as: onboarding finished, first script saved, first video saved, paywall viewed, free trial started, and taps on features (for example AI assistant, filming in takes).
- Information Firebase adds automatically: app version, iOS version, device model, language setting, and the approximate country, worked out from your IP address.
- A random identifier that Firebase creates for this installation of the app (the app instance ID), so events from one install can be counted together. Cue turns off Firebase's collection of the identifier for vendors (IDFV).
What is not sent: your name, your Apple Account, your email, the text of your scripts, your videos, your audio, your photos,. Cue does not use the advertising identifier (IDFA), does not show the App Tracking Transparency prompt, and does not link these events to who you are. We do not use this data for advertising and we do not sell it.
Google acts as our processor for this data under its Firebase terms. Google says Google Analytics does not log or store IP addresses. We set Firebase to keep user-level analytics data for 2 months, after which it is deleted. Aggregated counts that cannot be tied to you may be kept longer. AI features
Cue's AI assistant helps you write, shorten, fit, translate and split scripts.
On supported devices the work happens on your device using Apple's on-device model. Nothing is sent to us or to any AI company. If your device does not support it, the assistant says so.
AI results can be wrong or unsuitable. See the Terms of Use.
Purchases
Cue Pro is sold as a subscription (Yearly with a 7-day free trial, or Monthly) or as a one-time Lifetime purchase. Apple handles the payment, the trial, renewals and cancellation. We do not see your card or payment details. Cue checks with Apple whether you have an active subscription or Lifetime purchase so it can unlock Pro features. Apple's handling is covered by Apple's privacy policy: https://www.apple.com/legal/privacy/. When analytics is on, Cue records that a paywall was viewed or a trial started, not who you are.
Support emails
If you write to support@cue-app.me, we receive your email address and what you send us, and use it only to answer you. We keep support emails for 12 months and then delete them. We do not share them. Cue never sends your scripts or recordings to support; if you want us to look at a file, you attach it yourself.
Children
Cue is not directed at children and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children. Cue has no account. Analytics are not linked to a person and can be turned off in Settings.
Your choices and rights
- Analytics: Cue's Settings, Help improve Cue, on or off at any time.
- Camera, microphone and Photos: change in your device's Settings.
- Depending on where you live (for example the EEA, the United Kingdom or the UAE), you may have the right to ask for access to, correction of, deletion of or a copy of your personal data, to object to or restrict its use, to withdraw consent, and to complain to your data protection authority. You can ask at support@cue-app.me and we will answer within one month.
- Because analytics events are not linked to your name or Apple Account, we cannot tell which events are yours. Turning off Help improve Cue in Cue's Settings stops sending and deletes the analytics identifier on your iPhone, so later events cannot be joined to earlier ones. Events already sent are deleted by Google after the 2-month retention period. Support emails we can find by your email address.
Where data goes
Firebase Analytics data is processed by Google, which may store it outside your country, including in the United States. Google relies on the EU-U.S. Data Privacy Framework and standard contractual clauses for transfers. By leaving analytics on you agree to this transfer. Our own handling takes place in the United Arab Emirates.
Cue on Mac
Cue on an Apple silicon Mac is the iPad app running on your Mac. It collects nothing more than described here. Camera and microphone access on a Mac is used only to record, as on iPhone and iPad.
Changes
If this policy changes, we will post the new version on this page with a new date. If a change adds a new kind of data collection or a new recipient of your data, Cue will ask for your choice again inside the app before the change applies to you.
