What a free teleprompter app can do
- Scroll your script on the screen at a speed and text size you set.
- Record you with the front camera while the script scrolls, so you read and look at the camera at once.
- Save the video to Photos.
What free versions often hold back: long or many scripts, 4K, importing documents, mirrored text for a rig, or a video without a watermark.
The built-in way, with no app
The iPhone has no teleprompter of its own. Two free workarounds:
- Write the script in Notes and say it out loud until you know it.
- Record in the Camera app and tap the Pause button between parts, so you can read the next lines before you carry on. Apple's steps: Apple Support, Record a video with your iPhone camera.
The limit: nothing shows the script while the camera records.
What Cue's free version includes
- The teleprompter and camera: the script scrolls on the camera screen while Cue films you.
- 3 scripts.
- Full HD recording, with no watermark on the saved video.
- Speed and Size rails, Test read to set both, Script mirror for a prompter rig, and a countdown.
- Starter templates, three for each creator type, and script backup.
Cue Pro adds unlimited scripts, filming in takes, 4K, audio-only recording, script import, every template, export sizes and on-device AI tools. It comes as Yearly with a 7-day free trial, Monthly, or Lifetime as a one-time purchase.

What other apps keep free
- Teleprompter for Video (Norton Five): free for scripts of up to 750 characters, about a minute of video, with no watermark. It also lists voice-assisted scrolling.
- Teleprompter (Teleprompter Apps Ltd): free with unlimited scripts and no length limit, video recording, and up to 5 imported documents. Mirroring and remotes are part of its Pro upgrade.
- Teleprompter.com: its free plan has voice-activated scrolling and no limit on video length. Free videos carry a watermark and export in 1080p.
- BIGVU: its free plan records at 720p with a watermark, up to 9 minutes per video.
- PromptSmart Lite: a free trial of PromptSmart Pro with scrolling that follows your voice, one script at a time.
For a long script, Cue Pro adds filming in takes: record one part at a time, retake only the part that slipped, and Cue joins the parts into one video. See the full comparison of teleprompter apps for iPhone.
Questions
Does Cue add a watermark to free videos?
No. Videos recorded with Cue's free version are saved to Photos in Full HD with no watermark.
How many scripts can I keep for free?
Cue's free version holds 3 scripts. Edit them as often as you like, or delete one to make room for a new one. Cue Pro has unlimited scripts.
Is there a teleprompter app with no subscription?
Yes. Cue Pro comes as Lifetime, a one-time purchase, as well as Yearly with a 7-day free trial and Monthly. Teleprompter Pro also offers its upgrade as a one-time purchase, and PromptSmart Pro is a paid download.
Can I read a script while recording with the Camera app for free?
Not with the script on the screen. The Camera app shows no text while it records. You can say a few lines, tap Pause, read the next ones and carry on, but you look away from the camera each time.
